THE END OF THE PIER SHOW

DHB duly closed the Prince of Wales pier on Sunday  January 3rd 2016 a sad day for many Dovorians. New years day had seen hundreds of people turn out to take a final stroll along to the lighthouse, however it remained open for another two days and the sunday weather was pretty angry, with gale force winds making it difficult to stand up at times and only a handful of hardy souls to see the dozen or so gannets that had followed a shoal of sprats or herrings into the harbour, and were plunge diving into the water in pursuit of their quarry.
The next day I ventured out onto the Admiralty pier, first time for ages, the gannets were still about too and gave good views in a brief sunny interval between showers.
