THE FALL OF PEREGRINE POINT

Last Friday the cliffs above Crab Bay plummeted  into the sea leaving a huge pile of chalk on the foreshore,of course this is nothing new and has been going on for thousands of years and will doubtless continue for many more.I remember about forty years ago another big fall in the same area claimed the life of a Duke of Yorks schoolboy ,I was out in the bay fishing that afternoon and recall the frantic activity on the beach but it would be futile as you can imagine to rescue someone under a fall such as this.
Strangely enough there were many more places along the cliffs which looked more likely to collapse than this so beware.Happily the peregrines have found alternative perches.
Meanwhile the Kumliens Iceland gull is still around the harbour and has even been spotted in the Wellington Dock recently.

Asingle black redstart has returned to the breeding site at Samphire Hoe where on tuesday we put in a trio of Wheatear nest boxes to try and encourage them to stay as last year one pair held territory for some time before moving on.Also nipped over to Mary Bax to see the Cranes after work, evidently they have been displaying and looked quite at home there.
Yesterday did Stodmarsh in the morning and Oare in the afternoon ,can`t move today, stiff as a stump.
SWAN LAKE STODMARSH.
Nothing much out of the ordinary apart from the Glossy Ibises and my first singing chiff chaff of the year but a lovely sunny day nevertheless.
