PORT LOCKROY+ JOUGLA POINT

PORT LOCKROY-THERE IS A POST OFFICE HERE AND A SOUVENIR SHOP.

SEAL BRAIN OMLETTE This was not fortunately on our menu.
 Is someone still in there?
SHEATHBILLs were more numerous at Port Lockroy than anywhere else we had been.

whilst awaiting a zodiac taxi this SOUTHERN GIANT PETREL suddenly appeared overhead.
This is a pale morph, almost white in this instance-only the southern appears in this form.
AKA "WHITE NELLIE"
Our party then landed at Jougla point and went on a short hike in snow shoes,I was hoping for the old style tennis rackets, but no they were modern metal things.
ON TOP OF THE WORLD AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD
MARCH OF THE PENGUINS-Thats Cathy with her arms out doing the Gentoo roll.
PLANCIUS waiting off shore
 WEDDEL SEAL

WILSONS STORM PETRELS were quite numerous here.

GENTOO heading straight for a sleepy weddel seal.

Our turn for the zodiac cruise now and close encounters of the whale kind.

HUMPBACK with CAPE PETREL looking for a snack.

The zodiac that had been here before us had seen a calving at this glacier at really close quarters now back to the ship for a barbecue. Many people have asked me if it was cold in Antartica,I can honestly say that the only time I felt cold was on this zodiac trip,we always dressed for the cold obviously but the air was so clear and dry it never felt that uncomfortable,we were also lucky that the wind remained light while we were there.
The smell of the barbie made the humpbacks hungry too and a group of three were feeding near the ship in the evening light.

These were taken with my little Lumix camera.
